"Anna Mariah Heck Wherritt

Anna Mariah Heck Wherritt, daughter of Joel C. and Jamima Shoup Heck, was born December 14, 1887 in Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri. She died at Mary Marshall Manor, Marysville, Kansas on August 28, 1991 at the age of 103.
She was the last surviving member of her family, having been preceeded in death by one sister, Ada Montgomery of Montezuma, Kansas, and five brothers. Also preceeding her in death were her first husband, Frederick Hood; son Milton F. Hood; husband Barton William Wherritt; son Barton Leroy Wherritt; and grandson Larry Hood.
Survivors are daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Melvin Quinlan, Omaha, Nebraska; and Lucille and John Godfrey, Marysville, Kansas; daughter-in-law Mildred Hood, Montezuma Kansas; grandchildren, Diane Hood Gruver, Carol Hood Giesbrecht, James L. Quinlan, Rosalind Godfrey Long, Terry Godfrey Healy, and John Barton Godfrey; 17 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren.
Anna came to Montezuma in 1912 and her son Milton was the first baby born in the new Montezuma. She served as postmistress until her marriage to Barton William Wherritt on May 17, 1922. In 1974 she moved to Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas where she resided for ten years before moving to Mary Marshall Manor.
Anna was a member of the Methodist Church in Montezuma, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Montezuma Study Club.
She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends, but we are confident and assured by the promises of God's Word that we shall meet her again in our eternal Home."

CALIMESA - Graveside services for John A. Heck of Beaumont will be held this morning at 10 at Desert Lawn Memorial Park here with the Rev. Herbert W. Moise, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Beaumont, officiating. Weaver Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Heck died Saturday at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He was 90.
A native of Carthage, Mo., Mr. Heck was born March 16,1885. He was a California resident for 34 years and lived in Beaumont for 23 years after moving from Los Angeles. He was a veterinarian for over 40 years. He was a member of the Beaumont Senior Citizens Group.
Survivors include his wife, Luella; a son, Gene of San Pedro; three daughters, Helen Davidson of Long Beach, Maxine Cox of Coachella and Dorotha Engle of Coachella; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed of Carthage, Mo., and a sister Anna Werritt of Garden City, Kan."
