Tenuous link suggested. Names is consistently given as Whitaker in other sources and based on The James Whitaker/Barthen Cox marriage (see source comments for Daniel Root Cox) Further citations paint a clearer picture.

Working off the idea that S. A. Cox here is Sarah Ann Cox. I suspect I may find out that a few of the unknown coxes mentioned here will turn out to be children of this couple.
This idea is corroborated by sources on the IGI, which provides me with more detailed info on dates and places.

Jesse K. Shipley is descended from Shipley of MD. The line was published in a book, "Heraldic Families of [memory fails me - but either of "Baltimore"or "Maryland"] The part of "Heraldic" in Merrie Olde England was pure forgery! Line "researched" - complete with forged docs - by one Adolph Anjou. More can be found on Anjou at First Families of America website. Rest of it has been fairly well documented - but not by me so can't guarantee anything. There is a very active Shipley Family Association, but I have never joined. The address could probably be found by entering "Association" in Shipley Genforum page as search word. Line SAID to be:
1. Richard Shipley m Keturah Barnes
2. Benjamin Shipley m Elizabeth Hanks/Hawks
3. Nathaniel Shipley b 1760-70 probably MD d 1840 TN m Elizabeth Brown
4. Elijah H. Shipley b ca 1808 Wash co, TN d ?Madison co, AR m 1. Margaret Bean 2. Nancy Hunt 3. Sarah E. Unknown
Children of Elijah were: Jesse K., Nathan H., John, William, Tolbert, Edmon, Andrew J., E. H. (a doctor), Elijah, Sarah.

Jesse K. b 5 Feb 1827 Washington co, TN married 18 Apr 1852 Washington co, AR to Sarah Jane Whinery. Their children:
1. Henry Thomas Shipley m 5 Nov 1874 to Clerinda Timmizine Ramsey (my ancestors). They were divorced 1898 when she lived in McAlester, Pittsburg Co., OK (then I.T.) some years after "Tom" deserted her and the children. He was a cattle drover, she ran a boarding house. She remarried to J. G. Causey, both buried McAlester.
2. Nathaniel Hamilton m Elizabeth Unknown
3. William E. m Timiziah Wilson
4. Joshua C.
5. Samuel H.
6. James Madison
7. Sarah Ann
8. Elbert E.

I would like to know more about Whinery, and what happened to Henry Thomas Shipley. He was a cattle drover, said to have been killed in/around Honey Grove, Fannin co, TX, possibly in a barroom brawl. I would also like to know more about your James Madison Shipley.

German Franklin Cox shows up as a Wortham, though he is clearly marked as being the son of GF and SA. (Granderson Franklin and Sarah Ann Cox) Why then a Wortham?.
