2Personal Knowledge.
Death place spelling correction and some anecdotes from Brian D. Smith who used to communicate with Rawdon via morse code.

Abridged Email:
I may have e-mailed you before in regard to your relative, Rawdon K. Lowe. I do recall exchanging e-mails with somebody from his family genealogy site.

Anyway, as I mentioned at that time, I knew Rawdon "Rod" K. Lowe through ham radio. We talked two or three times via Morse code -- he had the callsign of KA5NIM -- and in all honesty he was a bit of a character: somewhat gruff at first, but displaying a wry sense of humor when he got to know you.

We conversed on the air around 1983. He told me he'd been a film actor in his younger days, but finally got sick of it and quit. I got the impression he was never a star, but he once mentioned that I might see him in an occasional old movie, though he never mentioned any titles.

I was sorry to hear that he passed away in 1998. He was a most interesting fellow.

...

I wish you well with your genealogy. It's funny ... I didn't know "Rod" very well, but I must say that he was the kind of gentleman who left an impression on you, even in only a couple of Morse code conversations.

See the Marion Twp
Book - Marriage Records of Grundy Co., Missouri shows a James Whitaker Married to a Barthena Cox on the 8th of April 1851. This would likely be the same as the James and Varthina listed here on the census with Daniel Root Cox Living with the family. Is Varthina/Barthena his older sister? (Would seem likely based on the age difference.) This adds an interesting perspective on the tenuous sister we have listed. Seems a likely sister-in-law of his possibly older sister. This then would suggest that James is an even older brother.

6Contact - Cathy Cox.
Has contributed much information and is to be credited with having broken through the Daniel Root Cox dead end.
I have the email she sent me on that find. She found Daniel and his sister Barthena along with Barthena's future husband, James Whitaker, in Laurel County Kentucky in the census records of 1850. Daniel and his sister are in household #300, while James is in household #445
This Cox family was also found on the 1840 census for Laurel Co., Kentucky on page 15.
Her further research I also have email for.
1850 Census record gives birthplace as Virginia.

The image (1850_census_grundy_mo_german.jpg) is extant in my files. (Sean M. Cox) Check out 1870 Sebastian Coounty census to see that the hard to decipher age shown in the image is likely to be a 27 rather than a 37. The IGI entry is probably based on a misreading of this document.
